Edema is also known as water retention or dropsy, it involves the accumulation of fluild in between the cells of ones body tissues. The result is swelling and bloating. Edema ususlly refers to under the skin fluid accumulation. Problems may simply result from insufficient water intake, in this case water retention is the body’s camel like attempt to compensate for the lack of fluids. Allergies are a common cause of water retention, as well as toxic overload, as well as circulatory, lymphatic, kidney disorders, inflammatory conditions, sodium retention, electrolyte imbalance, and premenstrual syndrome can also produce edema.
