Herbal Healing: Boil Fighting Formula

Boils are bacterial skin infections that may grow quite large and spread. This formula may act to fight infection. My sister had as a young girl a lot on her back, so my Grandmother made this formula for her and seem  to help her.

Boil Fighting Formula

1 cup water ( not tap water )

2 teaspoons powdered echinaccea root

10 to 15 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon powdered goldenseal root

honey and lemon to taste

Boil in a sauce pan add water, echinacea root and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15 minutes on low heat. Turn off heat than add garlic and goldenseal root. Steep for 20 minutes, than strain with a fine strainer. Add honey and lemon.

Caution on some, pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 2 years of age, older children and those over 65, should use extra water to reduce formula strength. The younger the child the more you dilute formula. Echinacea can cause tingling of the tongue. headache, rash, stomach distress, or other unpleasant effects develop, discontinue use. Do not break the boils, instead apply a warm compresses until boil breaks naturally.

To care for a opened boil, because when a boil breaks, it releases the debris of dead cells plus, the bacteria that caused the infection. So you must disinfect the open boil to prevent the bacteria from spreading. Wash area carefully with soap and water, apply a honey based salve made from 2 Tbs. honey mixed with 2 Tbs. aloe vera gel, 1 tsp. powdered comfrey root.

Honey has been used to treat wounds since the Biblical times, honey acts as a infection fighting antiseptic, aloe vera and comfrey encourage wound healing.
