Fig has been used for thousands of years, typically as a mild laxative. It contains a high amount of fiber, yet is very gentle on the body. The pulped fruit is helpful for relieving pain, abscesses, inflammation and has been used to treat tumors, swellings and fum abscesses, though the fruit is usually roasted before application.
When fig is used with other herbs, it can be an excellent, yet gentle, expectorant.
