Lemons are the most widely grown acid species belonging to the citrus fruits. They rank third among all citrus fruits in tonnage produced, and have been used foe generations for their therapeutic properties. The essential oil lemon is pressed from the rind of the fruit. The juice is rich in vitamins A, B, and C. Lemon’s healing properties make it a good all purpose cure all. They have a wide of therapeutic properties, making them the mainstay of any good home remedy chest. The leaves and the whole fruit may be used, according to requirements.
Fresh lemon oil is pale yellow, sometimes green, as it ages, it turns cloudy and brown. The oil can be applied externally and is used for a range of skin disorders and circulatory and respiratory problems.
Probably a native to Southeast Asia, the lemon tree is now cultivated worldwide. It is used extensively in food and beverages, perfume, and pharmaceutical industries. Lemon essence is second only to orange essence in its world production and use.To ease a cold or other upper respiratory discomfort, put a few drops of lemon oil on a tissue and bring the tissue to your nose to inhale. Alternatively, put a few drops on the front of the shirt the patient is wearing, this is an especially effective way to treat children’s colds. Inhalation is the preparation of choice for all lemon’s target ailments except skin problems. For circulatory problems, massage the oil all over the body. Mix 6 drops lemon oil into 4 tsp. almond oil to make a pleasing massage oil. For a soothing bath, add 3 to 5 drops to bath water. Both oil and juice can be used internally to soothe a sore throat. The oil should not be ingested.
Aids with: anxiety, depression, headache, insomnia, throat infections, bronchitis, laryngitis, colds, flu, high blood pressure, varicose veins, broken capillaries, palpitations, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, premenstrual syndrome, irregular periods,cold sores apply undiluted juice to affected area lemon juice for ulcers on tongue mouth.
Caution: Lemon is highly phototoxic. Always dilute before using and do not apply to skin before long periods of exposure to the sun or before entering a tanning booth. Lemon oil dose not keep well. Check the expiration date when buying, and do not buy oil that looks cloudy.
