Food Recipe of the Day: Sauerbraten Meatballs

Sauerbraten Meatballs

1 Lb lean ground round
3/4 cup soft coarse bread crumbs
1/4 cop minced onion
Freshly ground black pepper
7 Tbs. lemon juice
2 Tbs. water
2 Tbs. margarine
2 1/2 cups beef broth
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup gingersnap crumbs

Combine meat, bread crumbs, onion, pepper, 2 Tbs. water and 3 Tbs. lemon juice. Mix well and form into 1 inch balls. Heat margarine in a skillet and brown the meat balls. Remove from pan. Add to the drippings in the pan, broth and rest of lemon juice. Bring to boil and stir in gingersnaps crumbs. Add meat balls to the sauce and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir and cook uncovered 5 minutes more. Server over noodles sprinkle with poppy seeds if you wish.
