Periwinkle flowers

I haven’t found as much about this herb as I have on many of the other herbs on this blog, but what I have found is nothing short of amazing. As you can see in the picture, it is a pretty flower native to Europe. Lesser periwinkle has shown to have a substance called vinblastine sulfate, which seems to be beneficial for choriocarcinoma and Hodgkin’s disease. It also has the applied as an astringent and a blood clotting agent.
When used as an astringent, periwinkle is a great mouthwash for sort throats, gingivitis and canker sores. It’s ability to staunch blood flow has proved effective for treating such conditions as internal bleeding, excessive menstruation and nosebleeds.
Another substance found in periwinkle, vincamine, has shown to be effective against such conditions as arteriosclerosis and also for dementia.
