Many people suffer from bronchitis, and symptoms could include chest coughs, breathlessness and a raised temperature. Bronchitis occurs when the lining of the lung’s airways become inflamed. There are many different herbal methods for helping with the symptoms of bronchitis including aromatherapy, herbal remedies, infusions, decoctions and even acupuncture. Of course, you should seek the advice of a professional if you are experiencing chronic bronchitis.
Obviously I’m not going to tell you anything about acupuncture, and to be honest, I’ve never used acupuncture. Something about needles I guess. 🙂
Here are a couple of remedies I’ve found to help ease the discomfort of bronchitis.
Thyme- yes this is the same herb most people have in their cupboard. Thyme is an excellent expectorant and antiseptic. Simply take 2 tsp of Thyme and make a tea out of it (also call an infusion). Drink 5 cups a day
For Chest coughs and Bronchitis
Elecampane- It has a warming effect on the lungs and a gentle effect as an expectorant. It can be used for nearly all chest conditions and is safe for younger and even the elderly. (Elecampane should not be used during pregnancy!)
Make a decoction (in the How-To’s) – Drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times a day
Thyme essential oil is a great remedy as it will still act as an expectorant. Another oil that works well is Eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus is also an expectorant, but can sometimes be difficult to inhale because of its strength.
