Herb Recipe of the Day: Urinary Tract Infection

Note: Just to be in the safe side, I am not a doctor, so the following is not meant to treat, cure, diagnose or prevent any disease. This is a recipe that that grandmother used for us kids rather than take the train 30 miles to the nearest hospital. (I’m not so old that we took horses or anything, but we didn’t have a car so the only way to get around was to take the train. Believe it or not our schools had more than one room)

Urinary tract infections and cystitis can be painful and if left untreated, can cause serious injury to your kidneys. This is a pretty simple recipe that can be used for minor problems.

General Recipe:
Make an infusion of:
3 cups of water
2 tbsp Buchu (substitute juniper or goldenrod but not if you are pregnant)
2 tbsp cornsilk
2 tbsp marsh mallow root

Divide into 4 equal amounts and drink throughout the day (make new daily)

In addition to the above take garlic capsules and echinacea capsules as directed on the bottles.

If you have a serious infection (and believe me, you’ll know it) go to the doctor immediately!
