Recipe of the Day: Homemade laundry soap

Here is a great recipe for those of you who want to save money on their laundry bills.

Equipment needed
1- 5 Gallon bucket w/ lid
One long spoon (or something that will stir the mixture up)
1 Potato peeler

2 cups of baking soda
3 cups of borax (can be found at at Walmart for about $3)
1 Bar Ivory soap
2 cups dish detergent

Shave the bar of Ivory with the potato peeler and pour boiling water over the shavings. Mix until the soap is dissolved. Add in the baking soda, borax and dish detergent. stir until well mixed. Fill the rest of the bucket with water and gently stir until blended.

When you go to do a load of laundry, use one cup of your laundry soap per load of laundry. For a fabric softener, use one cup of white vinegar at the final rinse.

I use this soap, and it lasts me over a month per bucket, all for less than $12.
