Recipe of the Day: Soothing Honey Skin Cream

Why buy a skin cream with ingredients you can’t even pronounce? You can easily make your own with ingredients of your choice. This cream is a great emollient useful for any skin type. This cream disinfects, moisturizes, controls oil production and calms skin with a tendency to break out. You can even package it in a decorative jar and give it as a gift.

Ingredients:
2 tsp dried mint
2 tsp dried sage
2 tsp dried rosemary
1/2 oz beeswax
2 oz lanolin
1/2 cup wheat germ oil
1 tsp honey

Directions:
Combine herbs in clean bowl, pot or cup. Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over herbs. Let steep for 10 minutes. Strain through tea strainer, collecting liquid in clean bowl. Allow to cool and discard herbs. Melt beeswax and lanolin in heatproof glass set in simmering water. (Have a pan of water on the stove and set the glass holding the beeswax and lanolin into the simmering water. Don’t pour it in, this is a poor man’s double boiler). Add wheat germ to the beeswax and lanolin and stir. Add herbal infusion by teaspoonful and stir until well blended. Remove the glass from the water. Add honey to the cream and carefully stir until well blended. Let cream cool completely.
Stir cream thoroughly and transfer it to a clean container with tight fitting lids. (Baby food jars work well). This mixture will last up to 3 months.

    • If you can’t find lanolin you can always substitute with olive oil. We’ll have beeswax on our site by tomorrow if you can’t find it anywhere. Our shipping is only $3.50 for flat rate shipping.

  1. If you can’t find lanolin you can always substitute with olive oil. As for the wheat germ oil, you can also substitute with safflower or another higher quality vegetable oil.The honey is supposed to good for aiding to soften your skin, and the oils in the mix help in breaking down the sugars so that it isn’t sticky and it smells good, too. When I use this for myself, it isn’t sticky and absorbs readily.
